Does INFINITI Make a Hybrid?

No. INFINITI does not sell a new hybrid in 2026. Every 2027 model in the U.S. lineup runs on gasoline: the QX60 and QX65 use a 2.0-liter VC-Turbo four-cylinder, and the QX80 uses a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6. New INFINITI hybrid SUVs have been announced, but none are on sale yet.

INFINITI did build hybrids in the 2010s, and the last one left the lineup before the 2019 model year. The next chapter is e-POWER, a gas-electric system in which the engine only makes electricity for the motors. At Coulter INFINITI in Mesa, Arizona, the hybrid question comes up most often from QX65 shoppers. Plenty of people expected the new crossover coupe to launch with a battery-assisted version. It didn't, and the reasons say a lot about how INFINITI is handling efficiency right now.

Below, we cover the fuel economy of each 2027 model, the hybrids INFINITI sold in the past, what the brand has officially announced, and how to decide whether to buy now or wait.

The Answer: INFINITI Doesn't Sell a New Hybrid in 2026

As of September 2026, INFINITI's U.S. showroom has three models, and none of them is a hybrid. There's no plug-in hybrid or fully electric INFINITI on sale either. If you've searched for an INFINITI hybrid and found conflicting answers, it's usually because older articles mention models that have since been discontinued, or concepts that never reached production.

INFINITI builds its efficiency into the gas engine instead. Its two midsize SUVs, the QX60 and QX65, use a variable-compression turbocharged four-cylinder that earns combined ratings in the low 20s without a battery pack, a charging port or an electric drive motor.

Here's what powers the 2027 lineup:

• 2.0-liter VC-Turbo four-cylinder with 268 hp and 286 lb-ft of torque in the QX60 and QX65
• 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 with 450 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque in the QX80

All three models use a nine-speed automatic transmission, and INFINITI recommends premium gasoline for each. None of them has a hybrid battery, and none needs to be plugged in.

That doesn't mean INFINITI is ignoring hybrids. The brand has publicly committed to new hybrid SUVs, and one of them is expected to use the e-POWER system mentioned above. We cover what's been announced, and what hasn't, later on this page.

Is There a QX65, QX60 or QX80 Hybrid?

Most of the hybrid searches we see are model-specific, so here's the answer for each nameplate.

INFINITI QX65 Hybrid: Not Available

The all-new 2027 QX65 arrived at retailers in spring 2026 with one powertrain: the 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engine paired with standard all-wheel drive. There's no QX65 hybrid trim, and INFINITI hasn't announced one. EPA estimates for the QX65 are 20 mpg city, 26 highway and 22 combined.

If the QX65's fastback styling appeals to you but you want the most efficient INFINITI available, the QX60 uses the same engine and earns a higher 24 mpg combined rating in both front- and all-wheel-drive form.

INFINITI QX60 Hybrid: Discontinued After 2017

INFINITI did sell a QX60 Hybrid from the 2014 through 2017 model years. It paired a supercharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a 15-kW electric motor and a compact lithium-ion battery for a combined 250 horsepower.

Sales were modest, and INFINITI dropped the hybrid partway through 2017. The redesigned QX60 that arrived for 2022 used a V6 with no hybrid option, and the current QX60 moved to the VC-Turbo four-cylinder for 2025.

INFINITI QX80 Hybrid: Not Available

The QX80 has never been offered as a hybrid in the U.S. The current generation, redesigned for 2025, replaced the old 5.6-liter V8 with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that makes 450 horsepower. It tows up to 8,500 pounds and is EPA-rated at 17 mpg combined in four-wheel-drive form.

INFINITI's April 2026 announcement of two large hybrid SUVs on a new body-on-frame platform has led to questions about a future QX80 hybrid. INFINITI hasn't named those vehicles or said whether either will wear the QX80 badge, so treat any claim of a confirmed QX80 hybrid with caution.

For now, the twin-turbo V6 is the efficiency step forward in a full-size INFINITI. If you don't need the QX80's size or towing capacity, the QX60 is the better fit for fuel economy.

How INFINITI Gets Efficiency Without a Hybrid

In the QX60 and QX65, INFINITI's answer to fuel costs is an engine that changes its own internal geometry. It's called VC-Turbo, short for variable compression turbo, and it first appeared on the 2019 QX50.

What Variable Compression Means

Compression ratio describes how tightly an engine squeezes its air-fuel mixture before ignition. Most engines have one fixed ratio, which is a compromise between efficiency and power. The VC-Turbo uses a multi-link mechanism to change how far the pistons travel, varying the ratio anywhere from 8:1 to 14:1.

The engine computer chooses the best ratio for the moment. You won't feel the change happen, and there's nothing for you to adjust.

High Compression for Cruising

At light throttle, such as steady cruising on the Loop 202 or US-60, the engine moves toward 14:1. A higher ratio pulls more energy from each drop of fuel, which pays off on long highway stretches.

That's where the QX60's 28-mpg highway rating (FWD) comes from. Highway-heavy commutes across the East Valley play to this strength.

Low Compression Under Boost

Press harder to merge or climb the grade toward Payson, and the ratio drops toward 8:1. Lower compression lets the turbocharger add more boost without engine knock, which is how the engine delivers its full 268 horsepower and 286 lb-ft of torque.

The result is a four-cylinder that behaves like a larger engine when you need power and a smaller one when you don't, without the added weight and packaging of a hybrid battery.

INFINITI's Hybrid History

INFINITI isn't new to hybrids. Between 2011 and 2018, it sold hybrid versions of the M (later renamed Q70), the Q50 and the QX60, and its sedans paired hybrid efficiency with V6 performance.

The QX60 Hybrid, sold from the 2014 through 2017 model years, was INFINITI's only hybrid SUV.

The Direct Response Hybrid Sedans

INFINITI's sedan hybrids used a system it called Direct Response Hybrid. A 3.5-liter V6 worked with a single electric motor and two clutches, letting the car run on electric power alone at low speeds or combine both sources for a total of 360 horsepower.

It was a performance-minded take on the hybrid idea, closer in spirit to a sport sedan than to an economy car.

INFINITI M35h and Q70 Hybrid

The M35h arrived in 2011 as INFINITI's first hybrid. When the brand renamed its lineup for the 2014 model year, the M35h became the Q70 Hybrid.

INFINITI dropped the Q70 Hybrid in 2018, a few months before it announced the end of the Q50 Hybrid. By then, luxury buyers were moving quickly from sedans to SUVs.

INFINITI Q50 Hybrid

The Q50 Hybrid debuted with the all-new Q50 sedan for the 2014 model year, using the same 360-horsepower Direct Response Hybrid setup in rear- or all-wheel-drive form.

In September 2018, INFINITI confirmed the Q50 Hybrid would not return for 2019. It was the brand's last hybrid in the U.S., and no INFINITI hybrid has been sold new since.

Shopping for a Used INFINITI Hybrid

If you want an INFINITI with a hybrid badge today, the pre-owned market is the only option, and the newest examples are now 2018 models. Original hybrid-component warranties on most of these vehicles have expired or are close to it, so a pre-purchase inspection that covers the hybrid battery and its cooling system is essential.

What's Next: INFINITI Hybrid SUVs on the Way

On April 14, 2026, INFINITI laid out its next product wave. According to the official INFINITI USA announcement, four new models will follow the QX65: a midsize hybrid SUV, a performance-oriented V6 sedan and two large hybrid SUVs.

That's three hybrids among four new vehicles, a clear change of direction for a brand with no hybrid in its current lineup.

A Midsize e-POWER Hybrid SUV

INFINITI's release describes this model only as a midsize hybrid SUV. INFINITI later told Edmunds it will revive the QX50 name, use the e-POWER hybrid system with all-wheel drive, and share its underpinnings with the Nissan Rogue Hybrid.

Edmunds also reported that the new QX50 is expected in 2028 and will be built in Tennessee, where INFINITI already assembles the QX60 and QX65.

INFINITI hasn't released pricing, fuel economy estimates or an official model year, so those details are still open.

How e-POWER Works

INFINITI's Inspiration concepts, shown in 2019, previewed the brand's plans for e-POWER and fully electric powertrains.

e-POWER is a series hybrid. The gasoline engine never drives the wheels directly. It spins a generator that charges a battery, and electric motors handle all of the propulsion.

In the version Edmunds described for the QX50, a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine serves as the generator and two electric motors power all four wheels. Because the motors do the driving, the SUV should feel much like an electric vehicle, with instant torque and smooth, quiet acceleration.

There's no plug and no charging schedule. You fill it with gasoline like any other INFINITI, which suits Arizona drivers who cover long distances between cities.

Two Large Hybrid SUVs With V6 Power

INFINITI also confirmed two large hybrid SUVs built on a new body-on-frame platform. According to the release, the platform will offer V6 and new V6 hybrid powertrains and is planned for U.S. production for both Nissan and INFINITI.

Body-on-frame construction is the traditional choice for towing and rugged use, so these models look aimed at buyers who want capability as well as better efficiency.

INFINITI hasn't named either vehicle or explained how they'll relate to the QX80. Edmunds reported that all of the new models are expected before the end of 2028.

What INFINITI Hasn't Confirmed Yet

It helps to separate official statements from reporting and speculation. INFINITI has officially confirmed the four vehicle types above and the V6 hybrid powertrain for its new large-SUV platform.

Final model names, launch dates, pricing, EPA ratings and trim details are still unannounced. Any site quoting a firm release date for a QX65 hybrid or QX80 hybrid is getting ahead of the facts.

Reasons to Buy a 2027 INFINITI Now

The current lineup is fresh. The QX65 is all-new for 2027, the QX60 gained the VC-Turbo engine for 2025, and the QX80 was fully redesigned for 2025. You get current technology and full factory warranty coverage today.

You also get proven capability. The QX60 seats up to seven and tows up to 6,000 pounds, and the QX80 tows up to 8,500 pounds. Waiting means betting on the timing and first-year availability of vehicles that don't have prices yet.

Reasons to Wait

If your current vehicle is running well and a hybrid is a must-have, waiting can make sense. A two-row e-POWER SUV could suit drivers who mostly stay around town, where hybrids tend to show their biggest efficiency advantage.

Leasing a 2027 QX60 or QX65 is one way to split the difference. A lease lets you drive a current INFINITI under warranty and revisit the market once hybrid models arrive.

That's changing. INFINITI has officially announced a midsize hybrid SUV and two large hybrid SUVs, and current reporting points to arrivals before the end of 2028, with the midsize model expected to bring back the QX50 name and use e-POWER.
